Fifth in the Genomic Works series, this canvas carries the name James K. Polk, but—as with all works in the sequence—it does not depict the historical figure. The portrait band features a sepia-toned face, partially obscured and blended into its surroundings. It feels less like a person and more like a trace—an echo of someone whose traits may have quietly threaded their way into the present.

The Tarot card, The Fool, appears prominently in this canvas. Its specific meaning is not the focus; instead, it represents the randomness of inheritance, the unpredictable shuffle of traits and tendencies across generations. The surrounding bands are filled with mechanical diagrams, celestial symbols, and vibrant textures—suggesting a fusion of logic, mysticism, and lived experience.

The shimmering genomic bands remain—abstract, unreadable, and chromatically rich. Together, these elements form a meditation on how identity is assembled: not from names or likenesses, but from fragments, mutations, and the invisible architectures that shape us.
